Ryerson Station State Park was named after nearby Ryerson’s Fort and opened in 1967.

The former Department of Forests and Waters started acquiring land in Greene County for a park in 1958 as part of its plan to have a state park within 25 miles of every resident of Pennsylvania.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNIR), the park features a swimming pool, campground, hiking, fishing, picnicking and winter activities.

In August, DCNR officials broke ground for a new swimming pool complex, which is currently underway and is expected to be open in time for the June 2020 swim season.
Throughout October Greene County has been slowly turning yellow, with the arrival of autumn and cooler temperatures.
Even though the progression of fall colors has been slow this year, some changes can already be seen. The Messenger honed in on what Ryerson Station State Park, in the county’s southwestern corner, had to offer this past weekend.
According to an AccuWeather forecast, most of Pennsylvania should have reached its peak fall color by mid-October, but yellow was still predominant over red. Plus, the U.S. Forest Service still indicates green as the state’s leaf color.
