CASA certifies volunteers
The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) certified seven more volunteers during a ceremony held at the Greene County Courthouse. CASA volunteers advocate for and support children in the foster care system. The program currently has 15 volunteers and is always looking for more. For more information, call 724-833-2615.
WHS-Greene donation
Washington Health Systems Greene Auxiliary made a $35,000 donation to the Washington Health System Foundation so WHS Greene can purchase a new heart monitor, bladder scanner and a full set of CPR dummies. The donation was made possible through the work of volunteers at the hospital and The Cherry Door Thrift Shop in Waynesburg.
Catholics decline
The Pittsburgh Diocese, composed of Greene, Washington, Allegheny, Beaver, Lawrence and Butler counties, released a report showing a sharp decline in the amount of practicing Catholics in the last 40 years. In 1979, the diocese had 912,959 Catholics. By 2018, that number dropped by 30% to 630,379. Church officials said these stats are gathered through annual reports.
Terroristic threats
Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson recently charged Joshua A. Seeholder, 29, of Graysville and Kenneth Phillips, 51, of Waynesburg with terroristic threats.
Assault charges
Sebrina Lee, 30, and Heather Minor, 43, of Cumberland Township were each charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct on Sept. 16 by township police. The two were allegedly involved in a physical fight on Sept. 5 at Wana B. Park, according to the criminal complaint.
