Greene men arrested for burglary, assault

Two Nemacolin men are accused of breaking into a relative’s nearby home over a dispute involving a firearm, leading to the woman and her boyfriend being assaulted.
Jerome Rafail, 50, and his son, Waddia Rafail IV, 22, were taken into custody Wednesday night, shortly after police responded to the incident at Diaz Avenue.
The woman told police Jerome Rafail had assaulted her after accusing her of stealing from him. Rafail later told police she had admitted to taking a firearm from him, which her boyfriend later sold.
After their initial conversation at Rafail’s house, the woman left to go to her own house nearby. Jerome Rafail said she instructed his son to kick down the door, whereupon they both entered, the complaint said.
Jerome Rafail told police he had “beat up” the woman and her boyfriend, including striking one or both of them with a three-tiered piece of furniture. He also struck one or both of them with a wooden club he picked up after being hit with it himself, the complaint said.
The boyfriend was bleeding from his right ear and also had blood on his lower leg, which police believed may have been from a gunshot wound, according to the complaint,.
The woman and her boyfriend were both transported to a medical facility to be treated for their injuries, the complaint said.
Jerome Rafail and Waddia Rafail IV are both charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary, both first-degree felonies. Jerome Rafail also has an additional first-degree felony charge for aggravated assault, along with misdemeanor charges of assault and terroristic threats.
Waddia Rafail’s bail was set at $15,000. Both were confined to Greene County jail after being unable to post bail.
