Each year, the Rotary Club of Waynesburg awards scholarships to worthy high school students. The awards are selected based on academic performance, community service involvement, letters of recommendation and the student’s response to the essay question, “What does the Rotary motto, ‘service above self,’ mean to you?”
“This year, the club selected two $1,000 recipients from among nearly 40 applicants,” said club scholarship chair, Melody Longstreth. “The committee was very impressed by the quality of our applicants and enjoyed learning about so many talented and generous students.”
The winners selected were Ethan Greene of Carmichaels Area High School and Cameron Cernuska of Jefferson-Morgan High School, both are 2019 graduates.
Greene is the son of James and Pamela Jo Greene of Carmichaels. He will attend Penn State University Fayette this fall and major in business administration.
Cernuska is the son of Steve and Juliann Cernuska of Jefferson. He will attend Bucknell University to pursue a major in chemical engineering.
Both students were presented with the scholarships at the recent Rotary Club of Waynesburg’s Annual Dinner, which took place at Thistlethwaite Vineyard.
