Crashes on the rise
PennDOT reported that 2018 brought the highest number of crashes across Southwest Pa. since at least 2009. Greene, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties had a collective 7,056 crashes, which is a 7% increase from 2017. Jay Ofsanik, safety press officer, said the high amount of rain last year is one of the attributes to the increased number of crashes. “I don’t think people fear rain like they do snow,” he said.
