Kay Frances Nowlin, born Kay Frances Seals, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, with her family by her side.

She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Kay was born to John and Dorothy Seals in Jefferson, Pennsylvania, on August 14, 1934. She was the second of five children in a very close-knit family.

Kay’s organizational skills lead her to work in accounting and eventually to her work at Oxbow Marina. Joe, Warren and the crew became Kay’s work family and she thrived in the Delta. She spent her spare time driving to Sacramento on the weekend to spend time with her family.

In 2015 Kay retired and moved to Carmichael, Calif., where she enjoyed quilting, scrapbooking, bargain shopping and spending time with family. As an avid reader, Kay had been known to complete an entire novel in one day!

Kay was a gifted seamstress and the quilts she created were legendary. She even made t-shirt quilts for her grandchildren that they have used into their adulthood.

Kay loved her family dearly. Her children were the light of her life and her relationship with her siblings was treasured. Everyone looked forward to the mounds of delicious baked goods she always had ready for any gathering. She would individually wrap her goodies to send to family across country and overseas!

Kay lovingly and painstakingly documented life events for everyone in beautiful photo albums that she gifted to all. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She touched the lives of so many people. She will truly be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten.

Kay was preceded in death by her sister, Sue Ellen Kingan.

She is survived by her sons, James Broadwater and Kevin Broadwater; grandchildren: Kristen, Kevin, Renee, Sara, Lia and Ana; great-grandchildren: Mia, Jake, Nick, Jack, Ben, Camden, Hadley, Calvin and Russell.

She will be forever cherished by her siblings, Donna Huffman, Becky Walker, Judy Campbell and Jack Seals.

Services will be held in Jefferson, Pennsylvania and a celebration of life will be held at her son’s home in Carmichael, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Kay’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Those who touch our lives, stay in our hearts forever.
