Local roundup: Pioneers fall to Cameron, 61-37

Cameron of West Virginia pulled away in the third quarter for a 61-37 non-section boys basketball win over visiting West Greene last Friday night..

Cameron led 25-18 at halftime and then outscored West Greene in the third quarter, 26-4.

Lane Allison paced the Pioneers with 23 points.

The Dragons’ Colson Wichterman scored a game-high 24 points in the victory. Lauce Hartley added 18 points.

Thursday, Dec. 21

Charleroi 58, Waynesburg Central 41 – Jackson Keranko scored 17 points as the Cougars defeated the visiting Raiders in a Section 4-AAA game.

Bryce Large added 12 points for Charleroi (1-1, 2-5).

Cole Headlee tied for game-high honors with 17 points for Waynesburg (0-2, 2-6).

Chartiers-Houston 44, Jefferson-Morgan 39 – Avery Molek led all scorers with 25 points in helping the Bucs (6-1) stave off the host Rockets in a non-section game.

John Woodward led J-M (5-3) with 12 points and Dayten Marion chipped in with 11 points.

Girls basketball

Waynesburg Central 50, Albert Gallatin 39 – Kaley Rohanna scored a game-high 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and dished out 10 assists as the Lady Raiders stayed perfect on the season with a non-section victory over the visiting Lady Colonials.

Waynesburg led 9-6, 19-10 and 32-18 at the breaks.

Avery Davis added 10 points for the Lady Raiders (7-0), who also got 10 rebounds from Peyton Cowell.

Mya Glisan paced Albert Gallatin (1-6) with 17 points and Grayce Panos tossed in 14 points.

Mapletown 33, Propel Montour 26 – The Lady Maples rallied with a 14-5 edge in the fourth quarter to knock off the host Lady Legends in a non-section battle.

Propel Montour (2-6) trailed 13-7 at halftime but surged to a 21-19 lead after three quarters before Mapletown charged back to earn the victory.

Emma Zalar scored nine points for the Lady Maples (2-5).

The Lady Legends’ Alyssa Krasovsky also had nine points.

McGuffey 53, Carmichaels 13 – Taylor Schumacher, Lexi Ewig and Madison Gaso scored 10 points apiece as the Lady Highlanders (6-0) beat the host Lady Mikes (1-6) in a non-section game.

Wednesday, Dec. 20

West Allegheny 42, Waynesburg Central 22 – West Allegheny was too deep for the Raiders for a Section 5-AAA wrestling road win.

Waynesburg’s Brock Evans (160), Floyd Huff (114), and Ky Szewczyk (127) won by decision, Floyd Huff (114) won by fall, Joseph Simon (133) secured a major decision, and Roan Tustin (215) received a forfeit.

Girls basketball

Ellis School 32, West Greene 29 – West Greene’s fourth quarter rally came up short in a non-section home loss.

Ellis School (4-5) led 24-13 at halftime and 30-18 after three quarters. West Greene outscored the visitors in the final eight minutes, 11-2.

Kendra Tharp led the Lady Pioneers (1-6) with 11 points. Taelor Spencer also scored 11 points for Ellis School

Fort Cherry 53, Carmichaels 20 – The Lady Rangers led 30-5 at halftime on their way to a non-section road victory.

Megan Voithofer led the Lady Mikes (1-6) with 10 points. Fort Cherry’s Olivia Kemp finished with a game-high 16 points and Raney Staub added 11.

Tuesday, Dec. 19

Brownsville 63, Waynesburg Central 50 – The Falcons built an 8-point lead after the first quarter and kept rolling for a Section 4-AAA boys basketball home win over the Raiders.

Brownsville led 33-21 at halftime and 50-35 after three quarters.

Trenton Wible paced the Falcons with a game-high 19 points. Harlan Davis scored 16 points and Jeremy Praster added 10.

Dane Woods led the Raiders with 18 points. Alex Eck had a double-double with 13 rebounds and 10 points. Jackson Dean added 12 points.

Burgettstown 67, Carmichaels 43 – The Mikes fell behind early and weren’t able to rally for a Section 4-AA home loss to the Blue Devils.

Carmichaels (0-1, 3-4) trailed 15-9 after the first quarter and 28-18 at halftime.

Aydan Adamson led the Mikes with a game-high 21 points.

James Leuice was the high scorer for Burgettstown (2-0, 6-0) with 19 points. Zack Schrockman (17) and Carson Tkalcevic (14) also scored in double figures.

Propel Braddock Hills 44, West Greene 38 – The Pioneers’ second half rally fell short for a non-section road loss.

West Greene (3-3) trailed 26-16 at halftime and held a 22-18 advantage in the second half.

Patrick Durbin scored 10 points for the Pioneers. Micah Kirkland finished with a game-high 14 points for Propel Braddock Hills (3-3).

Clay-Battelle (W.Va.) 76, Mapletown 34 – Clay-Battelle led 28-6 after the first quarter and 62-21 at halftime for a non-section road victory.

Braden McIntire scored nine points for the Maples. Preston Luzader finished with a game-high 27 points and Colby Barr added 18 for Clay-Battelle.

Rifle

Penn-Trafford 797-54x, Waynesburg 784-40x – The Raiders dropped a virtual match to the Warriors.

Emily Burnfied and Logan Crouse shared scoring honors for Waynesburg with 100-7x. Faithlyn Vukmanic was also on target with a score of 1004x.

Emma Lawson (99-8x), Carrigan Henry (96-3x), Joe Withrow (97-2x), Corbin Flanagan (96-5x), and Aylah Ford (96-4x) also counted in the final tally.

Penn-Trafford’s Carlee Valenta was perfect with a score of 100-10x. Nino Sunseri (100-6x), Brian Broadwater (100-9x), Ivy Thomas (100-7x), and Emily Valenta (100-8x) also scored 100.
