COAL CENTER – The rain finally won out as dusk fell over California with last Thursday’s Section 6-AA suspended around 7 p.m. because of a thunderstorm.
The girls had to finish the 200, 3,200 and 1,600 relay on the track. The field events were completed before the suspension of activities.
California’s meet with Waynesburg Central was to be completed Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with the Lady Raiders already securing the win with a 78-48 lead.
The Lady Raiders’ Railey Bochna had a busy day with a first-place finish in the long jump (14-3½), second-place finishes in the triple jump and high jump, and a third place in the 100 high hurdles.
“I won long jump. I jumped really good. It was a really good jump for me,” said Bochna, a freshman. “Last year I jumped 5-2, and I’m really hoping to do that and make WPIALs and states.
“I’m jumping good (in the high jump). It’s just my form’s messed up. I’m jumping my best right now (in the long and triple jumps). My form is good.”
Bochna added, “Definitely, I want the (high school) high jump record. I want to jump 5-6.”
Waynesburg Central had overall first-place finishes by the 400 relay (54.05), Lake Litwinovich (400, 1:09.73; 300 intermediate hurdles, 55.97), Emma Weber (pole vault, 6-6), and Jaden Tretinik (javelin, 85-8).
