South Allegheny pulls away for 53-14 playoff win over Raiders

South Allegheny scored 46 points in the middle quarters on its way to a 53-14 victory over visiting Waynesburg Central in a WPIAL Class AA first-round football playoff game last Friday night.
The 11th-seeded Raiders (6-4) fell behind early but tied the game in the first quarter on Jake Stephenson’s 7-yard touchdown run.
The sixth-seeded Gladiators (8-2), led by Ryan Cortes, then went on their points streak.
Cortes threw touchdown passes of 10 and 31 yards to Drew Cook and 82 yards to Cam Epps, and also scored on a 1-yard run and returned a fumble 46 yards for a score.
Epps added on a 46-yard TD run.
Waynesburg closed the scoring on Jeffrey Blair’s 42-yard touchdown pass to Teagen Crouse in the fourth quarter.
Blair threw for 119 yards, Jack Ricciuti had two receptions for 91 yards and Stephenson carried 11 times for 65 yards to lead the way for the Raiders who were making their second straight postseason appearance.
