Local roundup: Lady Raiders upended in first round of volleyball playoffs

Avonworth handed sixth-seeded Waynesburg Central its first loss of the season, 3-0, eliminating the Lady Raiders in the first round of the WPIAL Class AA girls volleyball playoffs on Wednesday.

The 11th-seeded Lady Antelopes, who defeated Mohawk in a preliminary round match on Monday, won by scores of 25-13, 25-19, 25-11.

Tuesday, Oct. 22

California 3, Carmichaels 0 – The visiting Lady Trojans upended Carmichaels to advance to the Class A quarterfinals against fourth-seeded St. Joseph.

California swept to victory by the scores 25-19, 25-18 and 25-8.

Greensburg C.C. 3, West Greene 0 – The third-seeded Lady Centurions defeated visiting West Greene in straight sets.

Greensburg C.C. had set wins of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-8.

Girls soccer

Riverview 1, Waynesburg Central 0 – Hannah Hudack scored the match’s only goal in the second half to lift visiting Riverview to a WPIAL Class A first-round playoff match victory.

Riverview (11-3-0) advanced to the quarterfinals against No. 2 seed Seton-La Salle. The Lady Raiders finished with a 14-3-0 record.
