Review of previews needed

3 min read

Dear Readers: Here is this week’s SOUND OFF, about movie previews:

“My Sound Off is about movie previews. I recently took my child to see a PG movie, and the previews the theater showed were for PG-13- and R-rated movies. While the previews themselves were not rated that, there still were things shown that were a little scary for my son. And I had to explain that we couldn’t go to see those movies. I wish they would only show previews for other children’s movies at children’s movies.” — Paula in Texas

SOAP SUDS

Dear Heloise: I accidently added too much soap to my load of laundry and had too many suds. Is there anything I can do when this happens? — Helen, via email

Help is on the way! The next time this happens, add a squirt of vinegar to the second rinse to get rid of the extra suds. Then do a final rinse in plain water. Don’t worry, it happens to all of us! Vinegar can be used for many things around the house. I have put together a pamphlet with all of my favorite uses. If you would like a copy, send $5 and a long, self-addressed, stamped (70 cents) envelope to: Heloise/Vinegar, P.O. Box 795001, San Antonio, TX 78279-5001. Vinegar is a good thing to add to your loads of laundry occasionally to help remove detergent buildup and make your laundry soft and fluffy. — Heloise

MANAGEABLE MATTRESS

Dear Heloise: I read your article on mattress heights. My father has difficulty getting into and out of bed because of the new heights. I found that you can purchase a half-box. The mattress is still thick, but the box is half the usual height. This is great for people with difficulties getting into or out of beds.

When traveling by car, it is helpful to take along a small step stool. They make ones that are very light and easy to carry to use for getting into or out of bed. — Christine, via email

SCENTED DRAWER

Dear Heloise: I keep a sachet packet in some of my clothing drawers. I keep it on top of my stack of nightgowns, pajamas and panties. When I reach in to take the top item, the sachet drops down and scents the next one, so it smells good also. — Meg in Huntington Beach, Calif.

DOCUMENTS TO GO

Dear Heloise: I keep a copy of important documents in a small plastic container with a handle. In case of an emergency, all I have to do is grab the container and go. — A Reader in Wisconsin
