Holbert C. Gilleland
Holbert C. “Bert” Gilleland, 73, of Point Marion, Pa., died Saturday, March 30, 2002, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia. Born February 17, 1929, in Uniontown, Pa., he was a son of Isabel Holyfield Gilleland of Uniontown, Pa., and the late Earl Gilleland.
He was a 1946 graduate of the former South Union Township High School, Uniontown, and formerly worked at the Uniontown Dental Lab.
He was a 20-year Veteran of the United States Air Force who served during both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, retired with the rank of Tech Sergeant in 1971, and was awarded a Medal for Meritorious Service.
He then was employed at West Virginia University School of Dentistry where he was Supervisor of the Dental Lab until his retirement in 1992.
Bert was an active and faithful member of Point Marion United Methodist Church and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for many years.
He was also active in may community affairs such as Coordinator in Point Marion for the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, volunteer for the Meals on Wheels, Community Food Bank, and Interfaith Caregivers of Fayette County.
He was a former Cub Scout Leader and past President of the Albert Gallatin Band Boosters.
Preceding him in death were his father and an uncle and aunt, Ewing and Olive B. McClelland, who raised Bert in their home.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Dorothy Davis Gilleland; two daughters: Diana Gilleland of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Dawn Lee King and her husband, Mike King, of Smithfield, Pa.; three sons: Samuel Davis of El Paso, Texas, Timothy Gilleland and Gregg Gilleland both of Point Marion; two grandsons: Jeremy David Gilleland and Christopher Michael King; three brothers: Frederick E. Gilleland of Indianapolis, Indiana, Wendell Gilleland of Anderson, Indiana, and David Gilleland of Uniontown, Pa.; four sisters: Loretta Frazee and Jocelyn Radolec both of Uniontown, Pa., Beverly Rybecki and her husband, Edward, of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, and Dixie Lee Kopchak of Laurel, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
