Authority begins own billing program

By Christine Haines 2 min read

REDSTONE TWP. – The first round of bills the Redstone Township Sewer Authority sent out after taking over its own billing almost went off without a hitch. Authority chairman Dwayne Thomas said that when the authority took over the billing from H and H Water Controls, it didn’t realize that the penalties had already been added to the bills for delinquent customers and the authority’s computer system added the penalties, too. Thomas said the problem has been corrected, and affected customers will be credited appropriately. Thomas said no new customers tapped into the system in the past month. Five percent of the people who should be tapped in still have not done so.

Engineer Don Reho recommended that the authority enter into an agreement to treat ground water being pumped from the site of the former Center Independent Oil Co. facilities on Route 166. The water will be pre-treated at the site. The company will pay a tap-in fee of $1,650 and all costs associated with attaching the site to the authority’s system.

The authority is still looking into the possibility of purchasing the building in Republic where its office is located. It was noted that there are problems with a leaking roof.
