John C. Galecki (Gowesky)
John C. Galecki (Gowesky), 87, of New Salem, Pa., passed away Sunday, March 31, 2002, at his residence. He was born January 7, 1915, in Masontown, Pa., son of Frank Galecki and Helen Michalowski Galecki.
John was a member of St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Footedale, Pa., where he had served as an Usher.
A World War II Veteran he served as Staff Sergeant in New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Bougenville, Manila, and Subic Bay-Philippines.
He was a Life Member of Uniontown V.F.W. Post 47 and a member of New Salem American Legion Post 753.
John was formerly employed by H. C. Frick in Buffington and Lambert and had retired from General Motors Corporation, Michigan.
He resided in New Salem since 1974, was an avid golfer, and loved sports.
He will be greatly missed by his loving Family and Friends!
Three brothers, Stanley, William and Chester, a sister, Virginia, and his parents preceded him in death.
Surviving are four sisters: Helen Wanchick and her husband, John, of Livonia, Michigan, Sophia Scibor of Detroit, Michigan, Marie Franks and her husband, Edward, of New Salem, Pa., and Frances Kolonsky and her husband, Frank, of Uniontown, Pa.; a brother, Bob Gowesky and his wife, Julie, of Bradenton, Florida; nieces and nephews: Carol Gurgal and son John William, Stanley and Barbara Galecki and children Ann Marie and Jeffrey, Joan Olsen, Helen Wanchick, John Sheffchuck, Janet Miller and daughters Denise and Karen, William and Kathy Galecki and sons William, Bob, and Michael, Debra Bouchard, Joyce Kline and son Brandon, Paul Gowesky and children Cameron and Shannon.
Friends will be received in the ROBERT T. KISH FUNERAL HOME, 20 North Mill Street, New Salem, Pa., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 4, at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Footedale, Pa., with Rev. Fr. Stephen Bugay as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery where Military Rites will be accorded by Uniontown V.F.W. Post 47.
