Michael J. V. Cook Sr.
Michael J. V. “Mickey” Cook Sr., 75, of Connellsville, Pa., died Sunday, March 31, 2002, in the hospice wing of Mount St. Macrina Manor, Uniontown, Pa. He was born April 3, 1926, in Grindstone, Pa., son of Michael J. V. Cook and Pauline Stillwagon Cook.
“Mickey” was a longtime resident of Connellsville.
Prior to his retirement in 1986 he worked in Customer Service for Columbia Gas Company for 40 years.
He was a Veteran of World War II who served in the United States Navy with the SEABEES in Okinawa.
He was a member of Connellsville V.F.W. Post 21, Connellsville Polish Club, and Dunbar Township Eagles.
“Mickey” was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Leisenring, Pa., where he served as an Usher for over 50 years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Grace Gallagher Cook in 1987, a son William H. Cook in 1990, a brother, William M. Cook, three sisters, Anna Pearl Beeson, Pauline Dunston-Begonia, Margaret “Sis” Galderisi, and his parents.
He is survived by a daughter, Sally Sparks, and a son, Michael J. V. Cook Jr. and his wife, Donna, all of Connellsville, Pa.; his grandchildren: Jennifer M. and Brian Michael Cook, Matthew Sparks and his fiancee Patty Grusong, and Colby Sparks; a great granddaughter, Tristan Sparks; and a sister, Marietta Panko of Uniontown, Pa.
Family and Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Blessing Service will be held Thursday, March 4, at 9:30 a.m.
A Funeral Mass follows at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church, Leisenring, with Rev. Fr. Peter Peretti as Celebrant.
A Committal Service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, Pa., where Military Honors will be accorded by Connellsville V.F.W. and American Legion and Trotter American Legion Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be given to Albert Gallatin Hospice, Team 5, 20 Highland Park Drive, Suite 302, Uniontown, PA 15401 or Mount St. Macrina Hospice, 520 West Main Street, Uniontown, PA 15401 in memory of Michael J. V. “Mickey” Cook Sr.
A Parish Wake Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
