Missionary to speak in Waltersburg
Dr. Daryll Stanton will appear at Waltersburg Church of the Nazarene on Friday, April 12, at 7 p.m. The church is located six miles north of Uniontown on Route 51. Stanton and his wife, Verna, are career assignment missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in East Africa.
They were appointed to Zambia in 1982. Their responsibilities included being director of and teachers at Nazarene Bible School in Lusaka, Zambia.
They were transferred to Bophuthatswana in South Africa in 1984. While in Bophuthatswana, they planted the Pudimoe church. Other responsibilities included assisting the district as a member of the district advisory board, constructing buildings, conducting revivals and pastoral training.
They began work in the Sekhukhune Land pioneer area of South Africa in 1987. Stanton was appointed as district superintendent of this area when it became a district in February 1989. From 1992-96, the Stantons also pioneered the work of the Church of the Nazarene in Tanzania where it expanded into two districts.
During their most recent term in Africa, the Stantons have served in Kenya. Mrs. Stanton has served as Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Coordinator for the Africa East field. Stanton has served as Kenya Mission Coordinator, Superintendent of the new Kenya Eastern District as well as theology teacher at Africa Nazarene University.
Stanton received a bachelor’s degree in religion and the master’s degree in theology from Olivet Nazarene University. He also received a master’s degree in missions at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. He received the doctor of education degree from California Coast University in Santa Ana, Calif., in 1997. Mrs. Stanton received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Olivet Nazarene University.
Prior to their appointment as missionaries, the Stantons pastored the Chicago Central District and served as associate pastor in Flint, Mich. They ministered in the children’s church and Cambodian Outreach of Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene while Dr. Stanton attended seminary.
The Stantons have three children: Philip, Katrina and Rachel.
