Holbert C. Gilleland
Holbert C. “Bert” Gilleland, 73, of Point Marion, Pa., died Saturday, March 30, 2002 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born February 17, 1929, in Uniontown, Pa., a son of Isabel Holyfield Gilleland of Uniontown and the late Earl Gilleland.
He was a 1946 graduate of South Union Township High School and a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, and retired with the rank of Tech Sergeant in 1972. He then was employed at WVU School of Dentistry where he was Supervisor of the Dental Lab until his retirement in 1993. Bert was an active and faithful member of the Point Marion United Methodist Church and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for many years.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy David Gilleland; five children, Diana Gilleland of Morgantown, W.Va., Dawn Lee King and her husband Mike of Smithfield, Pa., Samuel Davis of El Paso, Texas, Timothy Gilleland and Gregg Gilleland, both of Point Marion; two grandsons, Jeremy Gilleland and Christopher King; three brothers, Frederick of Indianapoli, Ind., Wendell of Anderson, Ind., and David of Uniontown; and four sisters Loretta Frazee and Jocelyn Radolec, both of Uniontown, Beverly Rybecki of Dearborn Heights, Mich., and Dixie Lee Kopchak of Laurel, Md.
Preceding him in death were his father and an aunt and uncle, Ewing and Olvie B. McClelland, who raised Bert in their home.
The family will receive friends in the Point Marion United Methodist Church, Point Marion, on Saturday, April 13, 2002, from noon until 1 p.m., the hour of Memorial Services, with Rev. Mildred Martin officiating.
Private interment will be held at a later date in the Bowman-Flatwoods Cemetery, Vanderbilt, Pa.
