Tests show no tampering at Greene water plant

By Staff And Wire Reports 1 min read

GREENSBORO – A water treatment facility was broken into early Thursday morning, but officials said preliminary testing indicated that no one tampered with the water. The break-in at the Dunkard Valley water treatment plant forced the closing of Mapletown High School and prompted state officials to test the water quality at a Harrisburg lab.

State police at Waynesburg said the tests showed no tampering with the water supply.

Police said a door was pried open between 2:50 and 3:15 a.m. Thursday, setting off an alarm.

Apparently, no one gained entry and nothing was stolen, police said, and little damage was done to the plant. Police have no suspects in the case, but they are continuing to investigate.

None of the authority’s 1,200 customers were in danger, said Betsy Mallison, a state Department of

Environmental Protection spokeswoman.

Customers were being supplied water from another facility. Several thousand gallons of water at the plant were to be dumped as a precaution.
