John F. Cindric Sr.
John Francis Cindric Sr., 89, of Findlay, Ohio, died at 6:45 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2002, in Sunrise Assisted Living. He was born December 31, 1912, in Greensburg, Pa., to Nicholas Cindric and Clara Pulig Cindric.
Mr. Cindric retired in 1982 as a Business Education Teacher from Columbus Grove (Ohio) High School and in 1973 as Superintendent at Beaverdam, Ohio, and Arcadia, Ohio, high schools.
He also taught and coached basketball and baseball in both Elida and New Bremen, Ohio. He was a Football Official for 36 years and a Basketball Official for 30 years.
John played Professional Baseball for the New York Yankees, Boston Braves, and St. Louis organizations.
He was the former First Baseman for the Findlay Browns and also the Lima Pandas in the Ohio State League.
He was a former member of the Ohio High School Officials Association.
He had been inducted into the University of Findlay Athletic Hall of Fame in 1980 and also the Hancock County Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.
John was a United States Army Veteran who served with the 1st Armored Division, 68th F.A. in Europe.
He as a member of First Presbyterian Church, F. & A. M. Grand Lodge 227, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo, Ohio, Findlay Shrine Club, and Ohio Retired Superintendents Association.
John graduated from the former North Union High School in Uniontown, Pa.
He attended George Washington University, earned his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Findlay where he lettered in football and basketball and coached freshman baseball for three years, earned his Masters Degree at Indiana University, and did graduate work at both Ohio State University and Miami of Ohio University.
He married Marjorie E. Solt Cindric, on August 9, 1941. She died April 26, 2000.
Also deceased are a brother, George P. Cindric, two sisters, Ann Bero and Mary Hancak, and his parents.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan and her husband, George Palisin Jr., of Berea, Ohio; a son, Dr. John F. “Skip” Jr. and his wife, Jean, of Findlay, Pa.; six grandchildren; and four brothers: Joseph A. Cindric and Andrew Cindric and his wife, Regina, all of Uniontown, Pa., Nicholas Cindric and his wife, Marie, of Mount Dora, Florida, and Paul J. Cindric and his wife, Norma, of Connellsville, Pa.
Visitation was held Sunday, March 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, Ohio, where Funeral Services were held Monday, March 25, at 10 a.m. The Rev. John W. Wurster officiated.
Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery.
