New police dog joins Washington Township force
WASHINGTON TWP. – Township officials announced a new “police officer” will join their force beginning in June. Officer “Rex,” a German shepherd police dog, is training with township patrolman Richard Taylor so they can work together as a unit.
“It’s going to be a one-on-one experience for both of them,” said township Supervisor Joanne Latkanich.
“Rex” was a gift to the township courtesy of the Fayette City and Washington Township Lions Club. Township officials expressed gratitude to club members for their donation and said that “Rex” will benefit the community.
Having “Rex” as a member of the police force will not cost the township any more in insurance among their officers. Township officials thanked all the residents of the township who have already donated food for “Rex.”
In other news, township officials informed residents in attendance at a recent meeting that the last day of burning within the township will be Wednesday. Burning will not be permitted again until Sept. 4.
