Alva Jacob Coffman Sr.

Alva Jacob Coffman Sr., 73, of Uniontown, Pa., died Sunday, April 14, 2002, in Allegheny University Hospitals, Allegheny General, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born November 14, 1928, son of Ira D. Coffman and Rena M. Wolfe Coffman.

Mr. Coffman was a member of Third Presbyterian Church in Uniontown, Uniontown Fire Department Hook and Ladder Company, Laurel Lodge No. 651 F. & A. M., Uniontown Lodge of Perfection 14th Degree, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite 32nd Degree, Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory, Noble of Syria Temple A.A.O.N.M.A. of Pittsburgh where he was a member of The Legion of Honor, Drill, Drum and Bugle Corps of Syria Temple, past President of Uniontown Caravan No. 9, and member of Branch 520 NALC.

He served as a Sergeant with the United States Army Security Agency during the Korean War and was a Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service for 33 years. He retired in 1980.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth “Sis” Edenfield Coffman; two sons: Alva J. Coffman Jr. and his wife, Maryann, of Uniontown, Pa., and David E. Coffman of West Palm Beach, Florida; three grandchildren: Ryan A. Coffman, Daniel R. Coffman, and Kimberly Morgan; a great grandson, Walter Avery; and a sister, Sarah Frances Hough of Connellsville, Pa.

Friends will be received in the JEROME W. SHELL FUNERAL HOME, 164 South Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, April 18, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with the Rev. James R. Tweardy officiating.

Interment will be private.

Laurel Lodge No. 651 F. & A. M. will conduct a Masonic Service in the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
