Scotties track team remains undefeated Greensburg Central Catholic won five events as well as the 400 relay Monday, but Southmoreland’s depth was too strong across the board for a 91-59 Section 3-AA victory at home.

The Scotties’ Tim Fratto was 3-for-3 in individual events, winning the 100 in 11.3 seconds, the long jump (20-6) and triple jump (44-13/4). Southmoreland won 19 of 27 points in the throws taking firsts in all three with Duane Frund in the shot put, Jeff Leonard in the discus and Steve Weimer in the javelin.

Tommy Brittain led a sweep in the 800 and finished first in the 1,600 with teammate Adam Baker third. B.J. Hall finished second in both the 110 high and 300 intermediate hurdles.

Southmoreland improves to 5-0 in the section and are scheduled to host Jeannette this afternoon.

Girls track

Greensburg C.C. 74, Southmoreland 72 – The Lady Centurions won two of three relays and captured several key third place finishes to slip past the Lady Scots in a Section 3-AA dual meet at Southmoreland.

Southmoreland (3-2, 3-2) won 10 of 18 first places with Leah Zeman the only Lady Scot to win more than one individual event. Zeman won the long jump (15-0) as well as the triple jump (32-4).

Rebecca Lowe vaulted 7-6 to win the pole vault and Dana Frund threw 93-feet to win the javelin to go with second place finishes in the shot put and discus.

Julie Wisniewski nipped the field by one second to win the 1,600 in 6:11. Heather Graft won the 100 high hurdles with teammate Cara Petonic doing the same in the 300 intermediate hurdles.

Boys tennis

Connellsville 5, Mount Pleasant 0 – The Falcons took a break from Section 5-AAA action for a non-section road victory against the Section 1-AA Vikings.

Ryan Hornick won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, as did Josh Martin at No. 2 singles. Gene Cunningham opened No. 3 singles with a 6-3 first set victory over Brian Houser, but the Viking rallied to tie with a 6-4 win in the second set. Cunningham clinched his victory and the match for Connellsville with a 6-1 third set.

Steve Lucas and Matt Ratai lost the first set at No. 1 doubles, but rallied for a three-set victory. Steve Haines and Randy Richter dropped seven games at No. 2 doubles to complete the shutout.

McKeesport travels to Connellsville (7-1, 4-1) this afternoon to complete a rained-out Section 5-AAA match.
