Mount Summit Challenge Sunday
Walkers and runners are being invited to take part in the 20th annual Mount Summit Challenge Sunday. The 3.5 mile challenge will begin with registration at the Hopwood Volunteer Fire Department’s social hall from 8:30 to 9:30. The challenge will officially get under way at 10 a.m. Registration cost is $20.
The Fayette Striders along with the Uniontown law firm of Radcliffe, DeHaas & Monaghan, and MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) are sponsoring the Mount Summit Challenge to aid in the prevention of drunk driving crashes and deaths.
All runners and walkers are encouraged to “get high” naturally and not risk their lives and the lives of others by drinking and driving. This year, as in the past, part of the proceeds will go to the Fayette County MADD Community Action Team, which is the Crime Victims’ Center located at 109 W. Fayette St., Uniontown.
Awards will be presented to the top three female/male overall in the various age groups for both walking and running. The top three male runners in the heavyweight division will also receive awards. Each participant is responsible for his or her own transportation down the mountain.
Finish line results will be provided by SERJ Timing Service. There will be an awards ceremony at the Hopwood VFD at the conclusion of the race and refreshments will be served. Winners must be present to receive their award. No awards or shirts will be mailed to participants.
In case of inclement weather (severe thunderstorm, snow, or ice storm) race information will be announced on the local radio station WMBS 590 AM. Sunday, April 28, 2002 has been chosen as the alternate race date if needed.
Race registration forms may be picked up at the offices of Radcliffe, DeHaas & Monaghan, 99 East Main St., Uniontown or the Crime Victims’ Center, 109 W. Fayette St., Uniontown.
