Tire cleanup set

2 min read

Allegheny Energy employees will once more canvas the region collecting old tires from roadways, streams and green spaces. The collection will be held on Saturday in a variety of locations in Fayette and Greene counties.

Combined, about 150 workers will work in pre-selected areas gathering improperly discarded tires.

Last year, more than 900 volunteers removed more than 37,000 improperly discarded tires from roadways, streams and other areas. In two years, about 2,000 volunteers have collected more than 60,000 tires.

“Allegheny Energy employees who have participated in this project and the many community volunteers who have helped us should feel very proud that we have been so successful in cleaning up the environment and helping to improve the communities where we live,’ Pamela M. Pershing, Allegheny Energy’s advisor, strategic environmental management, said.

Areas where volunteers will work Saturday include the following.

Bridgehouse Road, Bigfoot, Mount Pleasant Road, Route 88, Poland County Mine Road, Alicia Road, Penn Pitt Road, Mount Gallatin Road, Taylortown/Bobtown Road, Whitely Creek, Mapletown, Ruble Run Road, Gans Road, Gans Woodbridge Road, Cornish Road, Lake Lynn Road, Raymond Franks Road, Glenn Smith Road, and Jordan Harbor Road, Route 188 in Morgan and Jefferson townships in Greene County, Eanotti Road, Tower Road and River Road near Linden Hall in Dawson.

Employees from Hatfield’s Ferry/Lake Lynn, Fort Martin power stations and the Jefferson and Pleasant Valley service centers will participate.
