Uniontown Workshop planned
SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) in conjunction with National City Bank and Laurel Business Institute, is sponsoring a seminar for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
“Starting and Managing Your Own Business,” will be held from 8:30 a.m. until noon on May 23 at the Laurel Business Institute, 11-15 Penn St., Uniontown.
The seminar will feature presentations by David E. Priest, CPA with McClure & Wolf; Barbara Balling Carl, an attorney with ColdrenAdams Law Firm; Lucinda Baron Robbins, Penn State Extension agent on Economic and Community Development; Reid Smith, business banking officer with National City Bank; Chris Decker, president of Laurel Business Institute; and Jack Hughes, insurance professional and instructor.
The topics covered will include accounting and cost control, legal aspects of small business, community resources available, financing your business, the business plan and projections, and insurance needs and risk management for a small business. Hand-out materials relevant to the topics will be available.
The enrollment fee is $20 per person and applications are available at the Fayette Chamber of Commerce office at 65 W. Main St. in Uniontown, the Uniontown Public Library on Jefferson Street, Laurel Business Institute, the Greater Connellsville Chamber of Commerce in Connellsville, National City Bank office at One W. Main St. in Uniontown, or the National City Bank office in Brownsville or Connellsville.

Rafail heads office
Mark Rafail, a life long resident of Uniontown, has accepted a position as security consultant at Secure US, a residential and commercial security and fire alarm company headquartered in Morgantown.
In his new duties, Rafail will be charged with Secure US’s new location at 75 Beeson St. (formerly the home of Bear Security) in Uniontown. He will be involved in all aspects of the company’s expanding operations in southwestern Pennsylvania.
“We feel extremely fortunate to have been able to attract Mark to our company,” says Mitch Brozik, Secure US president.
“He is well know throughout Uniontown and southwestern Pennsylvania, which is going to make him a valuable asset to Secure US as we begin our expansion into that region.”
Rafail brings over 20 years of retail sales experience to Secure US. He has worked previously for Haynes Sportswear and Ptak’s Formal in Uniontown.
“I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to join a company with the stature of Secure US,” Rafail said.
“The security industry is in the midst of a tremendous growth spurt and I am excited to be working for such a reputable company.”
The ninth of 10 children, Rafail is married to the former Linda Kollar.

Beginning May 6, the CareerLink will be open the following hours:
Monday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
