Three dead in weekend car accidents
Three people are dead following two separate car accidents in Fayette County over the weekend. Stanley Yezek, 85, of Mount Pleasant died Friday from injuries he received in a two-vehicle accident in Bullskin Twp. at 8:05 a.m., state police said.
Anthony Marinos, 49, of Fayette City and Micah Liam Higham, 23, of Buckhannon, W.Va., were pronounced dead approximately two hours after their vehicles collided along Route 51 in Perry Township at 9:18 a.m. Saturday, according to state police.
A passenger, Shane Marinos, 11, was transported to Children’s Hospital, Pittsburgh by ambulance, where he was listed in fair condition Saturday night.
State police said the Bullskin Twp. accident occurred after Yezek, drove through a red light as he entered the intersection of routes 982 and 119 from Route 982, and struck a vehicle driven by Erica Tobay, 21, of Uniontown who was not injured, according to police.
Police said Yezek was not wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at 8:43 a.m. Friday at Frick Hospital in Mount Pleasant by Westmoreland County Deputy Coroner Joseph E. Musgrove.
In the Perry Township accident, police said Anthony Marinos was traveling north on Route 51 at 9:20 a.m. when, for some unknown reason, his vehicle crossed the center divider, striking Higham’s vehicle in the right southbound lane.
Both vehicles came to a rest upon impact and police said everyone had to be extricated from their vehicles. Neither Marinos nor Higham were wearing seatbelts police said. Both reportedly died from blunt force trauma.
Marinos was pronounced dead at 11:35 a.m. Saturday in the Monongahela Valley Hospital by Washington County Coroner Tim Warco.
Higham was pronounced dead at 11:06 a.m. in Uniontown Hospital according to state police.
State police were assisted at the scene by Perry Township, Washington Township and Rostraver Central fire departments; Rostraver/West Newton and Perryopolis ambulance and Rostraver and Perryopolis Borough police departments.
The collision is still under investigation and police ask witnesses to contact trooper William Shiley at 724-929-6262.
