Donald E. Burke
Donald E. “Duck” Burke, 70, of Footedale, Pa., passed away Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Uniontown Hospital. He was born July 7, 1931, in Lamberton, Pa., a son of Frank Burke and Frances Sheminsky Burke.
Donald was a member of St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Footedale, retired from Maple Creek Mine, a Veteran of the United States Army who served in the Korean Conflict, and was a member of Masontown Knights of Columbus, United Mine Workers of America, V.F.W. Post 47 in Uniontown, and New Salem American Legion Post 753.
His parents, and a brother, Eugene Burke, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 45 years, Marie Anne Hornick Burke, and children: Donald E. Burke Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Smithfield, Pa., Mary Cerny and her husband, Kenneth, of Smithfield, Pa., Susan Spak and her husband, Chuck, of McClellandtown, Pa., and Joseph Burke and his wife, Linda, of Keisterville, Pa.
He was a devoted Grandfather who cherished his 10 grandchildren: Charles Spak, Ken Cerny, Jessica Spak, Brandon Cerny, Gregory Spak, Beverly Burke, Alysha Burke, Anna Marie Spak, Donald “D. J.” Burke, and Joseph Burke. Also surviving are three sisters: Patricia Pikulski and Pauline Gaffey both of Footedale, Pa., and Victoria Dehanis of Richmond, Virginia.
Friends will be received in the ROBERT T. KISH FUNERAL HOME INC., 20 North Mill Street, New Salem, Pa., on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 25, until 10:30 a.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Footedale, with Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Sredinski as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Footedale, where Military Rites will be accorded by Uniontown V.F.W. Post 47.
