Bullskin residents complain about ‘junkyard’
BULLSKIN TWP. – Several Bear Rocks residents asked supervisors for help getting rid of junk vehicles on their neighbor’s property on Wednesday. Ken Shea of East Lake Road said his neighbor is running a “junkyard,” and every time he looks out the windows of his house, he sees trucks and cars instead of the beautiful mountain scenery.
“This has been an ongoing problem for 15 years,” said Shea. The guy moved one car right next to my driveway so he could cut some trees down to make a parking lot for his coal truck and he’s never moved it.
“The coal truck is right outside my house and with the weather getting nice now, my daughter likes to open her bedroom window at night, but when he (the neighbor) fires up the truck at about 5:30 a.m., the smoke from the truck comes into the house,” concluded Shea.
Supervisor John Coughenour said code enforcement officer Roger Adams will be sent up to Bear Rocks to take care of the situation, but he warned Shea that that might not do the trick.
“We’ve had Roger go up there before and he cited the man and he moved some of the vehicles out. The only way to stop it is to have Roger cite him again, but it might take a while until the case goes before the district justice,” said Coughenour.
In other matters, the supervisors awarded several paving contracts. Supervisors Chairman Robert Butler said bids were opened at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Better Materials of Springfield Township was awarded a stone material bid for $19,395, while A.C. Moyer of Lemont Furnace received a $99,669 paving contract.
Davies Ford was the lowest bidder on a Ford 550-diesel truck at a cost of $23,995 and a 1997 GMC truck to be traded in buy the supervisors.
U.S. Municipal of Huntingdon presented the lowest bid, subject to clarification by solicitor Michael Macko, for a truck bed, snowplow and spreader box at a cost of $18,900.
Coughenour said roads that will be paved this year include McConnell Road Extension, Iowa Street, part of Sunrise Circle, part of Garden Street, East Lake, Snow Shoe, West Mountain and the lower part of Green Brier.
Victor Paving was the low bidder at $119,000 for Medsger Road, Wiltrout and Lower Spruce Street. The summer paving program is expected to begin sometime in June and be completed by the end of August.
Butler reminded residents that spring cleanup will be held in the township as follows: District 1, May 2; District 2, May 9; and District 3, May 16.
Residents are reminded that all items must be set out at least two days prior to pickup.
