Churches to celebrate Day of Prayer

The night of prayer will be accompanied by A Concert of Prayer, which includes special praise and worship, and special singing. St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church in Farmington, located on Route 40, across from Fort Necessity National Battlefield, will observe the 51st annual National Day of Prayer with a service on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Al Botti, retired educator and administrator of Uniontown and Laurel Highlands School Districts, will be guest speaker.

The service will follow the theme “America United Under God.’

Officials said, “Now, more than ever, we need to be united and raise our voices in prayer.’

The service is non-denominational and open to the public. Refreshments will be served immediately following the service.

Trinity United Presbyterian Church, corner of Morgantown and West Fayette streets, Uniontown, will observe National Day of Prayer on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with a Taize service to accommodate the working people in the community and church.

This non-denominational prayer service is designed to involve all religions through sung prayer and responses.

West Virginia Career Institute, located on Route 119 north of Uniontown, will celebrate National Day of Prayer on Thursday by hosting a blood drive.

On Friday, May 3, the school continues its observance by installing a flag and flag pole that have been donated to the school as well as planting four trees in memory of four planes that were lost by terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.

The school will also host an informal barbecue for the students.
