George Hegedis

George Hegedis, 87, of Glassworks, Greensboro, Pa., died Thursday, April 25, 2002, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia. Born June 21, 1914, in Cherry Valley, Pa., he was a son of Steve Hegedis and Bertha Czonka Hegedis.

He worked for 43 years in the Coal Mines and retired in 1977 from Duquesne Light’s Warwick Mine. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 6310 in Greensboro.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Daisy Elaine Carr Hegedis in 1973, his second wife, Pearl C. Rock Hegedis in 1995, a brother, Joseph, a sister, Julie Shahan, and his parents.

He is survived by three sons: George Hegedis of Headlee Heights, Pa., William Steve Hegedis of Cabbage Flats, Greensboro R.D., Pa., and Harry Hegedis of Mapletown, Pa.; two daughters: Roselee Sell of Greensboro and Delores Glover of Cleveland, Tennessee; a stepson, Danny Rock and his wife, Marge, of Fairchance, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Steve Hegedis of Cabbage Flats; and three sisters: Anna Florek of Masontown, Pa., Marie Bezjek of Greensboro R.D., and Bertha Marger of Long Island, New York.

Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, 501 Morgantown Street, Point Marion, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, April 29, until 1 p.m., the hour of Service with Rev. William L. Parker officiating.

Interment follows in Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Greensboro.
