Helen Guyton Pratt

Helen Guyton Pratt, a resident of Bennington Road, Hopwood, Pa., died on Saturday, April 26, 2002. The daughter of the late Harold G. Guyton and Cora Corristan Guyton, she was born July 14, 1905, in Pittsburgh, Pa.

She graduated from Uniontown Senior High School in 1923 and attended California Normal.

On December 24, 1928, she married Clarence J. Pratt. He died in 1968.

In 1934, when the United States Government Office of Emergency Relief was established, she was one of the first local employees and was later transferred to the Pittsburgh office.

She was associated in business with her husband for many years and continued operating Kirk Linn Dairy Supplies on a limited basis until her 75th birthday.

A talented artist, Helen Pratt held membership in the Uniontown Art Club for over 50 years. Her paintings were exhibited in all club shows as well as in the tri-state area. Her watercolors were recognized for their delicate beauty, particularly those depicting nature scenes.

Descended from early area settlers, she was a member of the National Society United States Daughters of 1812 and the Great Meadows Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Helen G. Pratt was a Presbyterian by faith, holding membership in the Third Presbyterian Church where she was baptized as an infant.

Surviving are her devoted daughter, Janet G. Pratt Marker, and son-in-law, Charles W. Marker Jr., Hopwood, Pa.

She was the proud grandmother of Dewey Linn Marker and Laurel Beth Marker both of Hopwood and Alan Kirk Marker of Lawrence, Pa. A Great Granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Marker, lives in Florida. Also surviving is her cousin, Herbert H. Guyton Jr., Uniontown, Pa.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, Pa.

Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 30, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Services will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. William D. Rodahaver from Third Presbyterian Church, Uniontown, will officiate.

Interment will be in the Guyton Family section of Oak Grove Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts may be made to the Fayette County Association for the Blind, 48 Bierer Lane, Uniontown, PA 15401 or the Carnegie Library for the Blind, 4724 Baum Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15213-1389.
