Joseph Andria, the son of Jerome and Sheila Andria of Smithfield, has been selected by the state Department of Education to participate in the Governor’s School of Excellence for Music and the Performing Arts. Andria was one of 200 students selected from 1,500 applicants statewide to participate in this intensive five-week program at Mercyhurst College in Erie, beginning July 7.
He will be a senior at Albert Gallatin Senior High School in the fall, where he is a member of the National Honor Society, Interact club and drama club. He has been involved in several musicals at the school, including “Grease” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.” Andria is also a member of the Colonial marching band, in which he serves as the drum major.
After graduation, he plans to pursue his musical interests in the field of music education.
