Gwendolyn V. (Holub) Swanger, 84, of Church Street, Smithfield, Pa., died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Lafayette Manor Nursing Home, Uniontown, Pa. She was born April 28, 1918, in Shoaf, Pa., daughter of the now late William Holub and Hannah Johnston Holub.

She was a member of the Smithfield United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Smithfield American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, C. Ray Swanger; two daughters, Linda Proden of Smithfield, and Nancy Brady and her husband, Roger of Smock; four sisters, Thelma Pearl Krzton of Pittsburgh, Pa., Elizabeth Wilson of Ohio, Alverda (Birdie) Serraglio of Tennessee, and Emily Conrad of Ohio; one special niece, Mary Ann Brant and husband, Terry of Smithfield; two grandchildren, Penny Proden of Smithfield, Pa., and Aaron Ray Proden and wife, Michelle of North Carolina; and one great-granddaughter, Bailey Erin Proden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters, Myrtle Andria, Helen Holub, Sidwell Holub, William Holub, Joseph Holub, Hazel Sturgeon and James Holub.

Friends will be received in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME OF SMITHFIELD, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Additional visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in the Smithfield United Methodist Church from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, with Pastor Maggie Foreman officiating. Interment will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to Smithfield United Methodist Church, PO Box 296, 20 Church St., Smithfield, PA 15478.
