Greensburg man dies in Route 982 crash
BULLSKIN TWP. – A Greensburg man was killed early Thursday and a 41-year-old Acme man seriously injured in a head-on collision along Route 982 involving a sports car and pickup truck. According to state police, Terry Loughner, 58, died after his 1993 Mazda Coupe collided with a 1997 Ford Ranger operated by Richard Ritenour.
The accident occurred around 6:15 a.m. across from the Pleasant Valley Country Club. Bullskin Fire Department responded to the scene, assisted by Fayette EMS.
State police said Loughner was traveling north on Route 982 when he drove across the center- line while negotiating a right curve and into the path of Ritenour.
Police said Ritenour’s truck then rolled over on the driver’s side and caught fire.
Ritenour managed to climb out of the vehicle, according to police.
Loughner was pronounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Deputy Coroner James Bittner.
Ritenour was transported by helicopter to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he was listed in fair condition by a hospital spokesperson.
Police said neither Loughner nor Ritenour was wearing seat belts.
