Leroy F. Rich
Leroy F. “Red” Rich, 58, of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Carmichaels, Pa., died on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Houston, Texas. He was born July 16, 1944, in Waynesburg, Pa., a son of Ruth Rich Sanner of Carmichaels, and the late Silvie Leroy Rich.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jesse J. Sanner.
Mr. Rich attended Carmichaels Area High School, where he was an avid football player.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era with HHC 1st BN, 504th INF, 82nd Airborne Division in the Dominican Republic.
After his military service, he learned tool grinding in Carmichaels, with J & M Cutting and Grinding. In 1977, he moved to Houston, where he owned and operated Lee’s Tool Grinding until his recent illness.
Mr. Rich was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Carmichaels, and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Dorothy Rich; a stepson, Carl Gorney of Houston; four stepdaughters, Clare Stockman, Lori Schwab, Shelly Prather and Jody Barnfield, all of Houston; several step-grandchildren; two sisters, Leila G. Hennessey of Carmichaels, and Audrey A. DeSimone of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a stepbrother, Jack Sanner of Pottstown, Pa.; a stepsister, Linda Stickle of Uniontown, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at 1 p.m., in the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 200 East Greene St., Carmichaels, Pa., with the Rev. Harold O. Kelley officiating. Military honors will be accorded by V.F.W. Post 3491 of Carmichaels. Interment took place on July 25, 2002, at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Houston. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, PO Box 363, Carmichaels, PA 15320-0363.
