Sewage authority discusses problem areas at meeting
REDSTONE TWP. – Sewage lines in the area might have to be elevated because they’re not large enough for the job, according to members of the Colonial Joint Sewage Authority. Ralph Rice said that some places have become problem areas because the sewage lines are not large enough to support all the homes they are connected to.
“The line on Oak Street has picked up the line on Second Street and gone all the way up, so that it now has 24 homes on a 6 inch line. That won’t handle the roof water, let alone all the sewage,” said Rice, during the authority’s meeting Monday.
Dick Widmer of Widmer Engineering said his firm would like to go with some members of the sewage authority to check the areas that are having difficulties in order to see how they can improve them.
“We could elevate that sewer lines and it would really help us a lot. Sometimes people don’t use their basements, and if they are not, it would help to elevate it. We want to do that if we can,” said Widmer.
Rice said he believed the residents of the area would be cooperative about the needed renovations.
“I can say that almost everyone in that area would allow it. We can check over those problem areas when Widmer is ready and if I can get house numbers, I can talk to the residents the day before and tell them to expect us,” said Rice.
Widmer commented that they are “trying to make it as easy as possible for people,” but also added that when the sewers are too deep, it can lead to a lot of problems.
In other matters, they authority plans to begin core bore drilling at Colonial Legion and according to Larry Williams, they are now making sure that the ground will be suitable.
Rob Kuchar, of Sucevic, Piccolomini and Kuchar Engineering Inc., indicated that there should be no problems drilling there.
“Hopefully, we’ll get the drilling schedule and get the results quickly to see if we can drill there. Then we can proceed and go from there,” said Kuchar.
The authority carried a motion to pay the two bills presented by SP&K and Widmer Engineering. Their next meeting will be held Sept. 9.
