Officials pleased with repaving project
FAYETTE CITY – To the borough’s delight, a repaving project along Brightwell Drive was completed under budget and ahead of schedule. Engineer Mike Wedl told borough council Monday that the work’s been done and praised Manown Contractors for its work.
“I would just like to say that Manown Contractors did a fantastic job. They even had it completed in two weeks less time than we expected, and for about $7,000 less then it was supposed to cost. It was a good project, and I was very happy with what they did.”
The project ended up costing $82,671.95. Council had received a $100,000 grant from the state for the project.
“I think we can say it is the best road we have in town now,” said James Eley, council president. “I really appreciate the work that was done and the amount of time they completed it in. The residents there all seem to be happy with it.”
According to Eley, other roads are also in need of repair and they are working with PennDOT to have specifications prepared for the roads they would like to resurface. Eley said that North, California, Wilford and Water are some of the streets they want to repair.
Council also discussed problems they are having with reckless drivers on Sundays, since police aren’t usually available to enforce speed limits then.
Councilman Charlie Mirabella said he would like to see the schedule change.
“I know we’ve never had anyone working for the police on Sunday, but the way people fly up and down through here, I think it would be a good idea to expand it to Sunday as well,” he said.
Eley agreed that it might be helpful.
“I don’t have a problem with that. I think there is just as much traffic on Sunday as the rest of the week,” Eley said.
“The problem is that people fly right through here because they know there is no one there,” said Mirabella.
Mayor Herb Vargo Jr. agreed that the issue was one council should consider and said he would work on expanding police patrols starting next month, or as soon as possible.
