Vacation Bible schools BROWNFIELD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH will hold Vacation Bible School Aug. 12-16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The theme will be “Liberty Village.’ Students, age 5 through 12, will travel back in time and stroll through an early American village where faith and freedom are respected and God’s word is honored. ROSCOE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 300 Main St., announces California mezzo-soprano Linda K. Jukes will be soloist this Sunday. ST. HUBERT ROMAN CATH-OLIC CHURCH, 9 Sadler St., Point Marion, is asking its members and the public to bring in bouquets of flowers from their gardens, small bundles of grain sheaves and herbs to the church to be blessed on the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady on Aug. 14 and 15 at 6:30 p.m. Mass and again at 12:15 and 6:30 p.m. The age-old custom has European roots as faithful brought fruits of the field to church to be blessed and then scattered over the flower/vegetable gardens and fields for future fertility and harvest. MOUNT LEBANON BAPTIST CHURCH, Baltimore Street, Brownsville, announces the Chrysanthemum Club is sponsoring a bus trip to Lancaster, to see the biblical play “Daniel’ on Sept. 21 at 1:30 p.m. Cost of $110 includes transportation, admission and a buffet dinner. TOURS TO SHRINES IN EUROPE PLANNED: Fall and winter trips are planned for European destinations. Sept. 17-27 will be a tour to the Grotto of Lourdes, France, and in Paris visits to Notre Dame, Miraculous Medal shrine, tombs of St. Therese and St. Bernadette. October 13-22, a group will visit Romantic Germany, including Munich, Bavaria, Salzburg, Vienna Austria. The tour to Italy on Nov. 10-19 will include Rome (attending a Papal audience), Naples, Capri, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. A tour of Italy is planned Nov. 10-19 and includes Rome, Vatican City, Montecassino, Sorrento, Capri and Amalfi Coast. The participants will attend a papal audience and visit major religious and historical sites. Dec. 1-8, a tour to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be held. Participants will also visit the Pyramids, Floating Gardens and other historical and religious sites. Space is limited for all trips.
