St. Paul’s AME hosts Women’s Enrichment Conference

St. Paul’s African Methodist Episcopal Church, 187 Morgantown St., Uniontown, hosts its 2002 Women’s Enrichment Conference today through Sunday. The theme is “The Bridechamber Preparation Time.’

The program begins today at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Diane Smith.

Smith is the wife of Charles E. Smith and has three children and two grandchildren. She was baptized under the pastorate of the Rev. Loran E. Mann at First Baptist Church in Braddock Hills. In May 1995, Rev. Smith answered the call to preach the Gospel. She preached her initial message on July 22, 1995.

At First Baptist Church, Rev. Smith serves as a youth pastor, banner missionary advisor, a member of the Second Chance Prison Ministry from 1996-2001, enrolled in FBC Ministers Training School, Study with a Buddy teacher, and a member of the Van Ministry.

She attended Harty Bible School, Center Avenue, Pittsburgh, and is presently attending FBC School of Ministry in West Mifflin.

Saturday’s session begins at 10 a.m. with Minister Sharon Jones. She is the mother of three children and a teacher in the Laurel Highlands School District. Jones is a 1997 graduate of California University and a graduate student in elementary education.

She is a member of St. Paul’s African Methodist Episcopal Church, under the pastorate of the Rev. Alfred L. Thompson Jr. She serves as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Intercessory Team, director of Vacation Bible School and a member of God’s Choir. She answered the call of evangelist/preacher five years ago.

On Saturday at 2 p.m., Sister Kamela Townes will be the speaker. She is the wife of Victor Townes Sr. and the mother of six children and has one granddaughter. She graduated in 1984 from Clairton School District and attended Penn State University and the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy.

Townes received her Christian training at First African Methodist Episcopal Church in Clairton. She is licensed to preach. In answering her call, she discovered Oasis Ministries in Hazelwood, where she preaches the Word of God, teaches Sunday school, mimes and assists the Rev. Ray Lankford Sr., pastor.

All men, women and children are invited to participate in an Afterglow service on Sunday at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Diane Smith.

Minister Josie Thompson announced on a brochure, “I pray this seminar will be a time for women to come together in Jesus’ name, set aside the cares of the day, let your hair down and be refreshed as you are established in the ministry of Jesus Christ.’

There are no registration fees. A freewill offering will be taken. No small children are permitted. There is no nursery provided. Teen-agers are welcomed. A free luncheon will be offered from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
