BROWNSVILLE – The Brownsville Area High School cross-country team is sponsoring its seventh annual 5-K Run/Walk and Children’s Race for Saturday. The event will begin with the half-mile children’s race for children ages 13 and under. That race will begin at 6:45 p.m. at the Thompson House Tavern on Water Street in Brownsville. It will be followed at 7 p.m. by the 5K Run and at 7:05 p.m. with the start of the walk.

The race follows a flat course through the downtown Brownsville business district and will be followed by a family-style barbecue. All participants will be given a T-shirt and all children participating in the race will receive medals.

The registration fee for the children’s race is $10, while the pre-registration for the run/walk is $15. Registration the day of the race will be $20.

Numerous prizes will be handed out for race winners. The top three boys and the top three girls in the children’s race will receive awards. In the 5K race, there will be awards for the top three male and female finishers under the age of 14, in the 15-18 year-old bracket and in the 19-29 year-old bracket. There will also be prizes for women age 30-39 and 50 and over, men age 30-34, 50-59 and 60 and over. There will also be prizes for the top three male and female racers in the 40-49 year-old bracket.

The overall top male and female walkers will also receive prizes in the 29 and under category, 30-39, 40-49 and 50-59. Awards will be given to the top two finishers in the 60 and over age group.

Non-race participants can also participate in the picnic at a cost of $5 each for adults and $2.50 for children.
