Josephine Shutz
Josephine Vargo Shutz, 78, of McClellandtown, Pa., died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, in Uniontown Hospital. She was born March 15, 1924, in Bute, Pa.
Her husband, Edward R. Shutz; brothers, Joseph, Paul and John Vargo; and a sister, Margaret Vargo preceded her in death.
Josephine was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union, and was a past member of the McClellandtown Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She was employed with the Uniontown Hospital Laundry Services during the 1940’s, and later devoted many years as a volunteer at Mount Saint Macrina.
A loving wife, proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Josephine always cared for her family and friends before considering her own needs. She held great conviction in expressing the importance of those values to her children. Her strength, independent nature yet gentle nurturing manner will always be remembered and cherished.
Surviving are her children, Daria Domen and her husband, Larry of Uniontown, Pa., and Thomas Edward Shutz Sr., and his wife, Wanda Faye of McClellandtown, Pa.; grandchildren, Thomas Edward Shutz Jr., and wife, Deidre, Melissa Ann Shutz and fianc?e, Joseph Planiczka, Edward Ronald Shutz and wife, Jamie and Nicholas Domen; great-grandchildren, Derek Shutz, Kayla Shutz and Hanna Margaret Shutz; a sister, Sr. Sylvestra Vargo, OSBM, Order of the Sisters of St. Basil The Great, Uniontown, Pa.; a brother, Frank Vargo of New Jersey; sisters-in-law, Ann Vargo of New Salem, Pa., Veronica Vargo of Connellsville, Pa., Pauline Vargo of McClellandtown, Pa., Ruth “Boots” Shultz of Brownsville, Pa., Pauline Shutz of New Jersey and Ann Burnsworth of McClellandtown, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 139 West Fayette St., Uniontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Monday until 10:30 a.m., when a Panachida Service will be held, followed by a Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m., in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Uniontown, Pa., with the Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Wesdock as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa.
