Brownsville School District to hold registration
The Brownsville School District will hold a districtwide registration day for kindergarten through 12th grade Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the following locations: All grades, kindergarten through grade six students will register at the Cox-Donahey Elementary School, 200 Thornton Road, Brownsville.
Grades 7 through 12 will register at the Redstone Middle School/High School complex, 1300 Brashear Ave., Brownsville.
For kindergarten registration, parents should bring birth certificates, Social Security number, immunization record and proof of residency. Vision and speech screenings will be conducted.
Each child must be present at registration. Pennsylvania law requires that parents present evidence that their child has been given the minimum of the following immunizations (shots): four does of (DT) diphtheria and tetanus, with one dose administered on or after the fourth birthday; three doses of hepatitis B vaccine; three doses of polio; and two doses of measles, mumps and rubella vaccine (MMR). The first MMR must have been given at 12 months of age or older, and one dose of varivax (chicken pox) vaccine or written verification of chicken pox disease are required before the 2002/2003 school year.
Parents and students are invited to visit and tour all Brownsville Area School District schools on the following days: all elementary schools, Aug. 21, 1 to 3 p.m.; Redstone Middle School, Aug. 20, 6 to 8 p.m.; and Brownsville Area High School, Aug. 20, 6 to 8 p.m.
On Monday, Aug. 26, the district will operate on a full-day schedule. Homeroom assignments will be posted at the buildings before the first day of school. Transportation schedules and lunch menus will be published in the Herald-Standard.

All cafeterias will begin serving lunches on Monday, Aug 26, and the breakfast program will begin Wednesday, Aug. 28. Cafeteria prices for the 2002/2003 school year are as follows:
Lunch: Kindergarten through grade 6, $1.10; grades seven through 12, $1.25; and adults, $2.35. Breakfast: Kindergarten through grade 12, 75 cents; and adults, $1.25.
Reduced lunches: Kindergarten through grade 12, 40 cents. Reduced breakfast: Kindergarten through grade 12, 30 cents.
