Marie Chalfant
Marie Elliott Chalfant, 91, of West Brownsville, Pa., died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, in Uniontown Hospital. She was born Aug. 26, 1910, in Blainesburg, Pa., a daughter of the late James and Verna Fulmer Elliott.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her five year old sister, Gladys V. Elliott and by a sister, Violet E. Wilson.
Marie was a member of South Brownsville United Methodist Church for nearly 75 years. She was a former Secretary-Treasurer, Member of the Board and WSCS.
A graduate of the former South Brownsville High School, she attended Duff’s Business College in Pittsburgh. Marie retired from the former Kart’s in Brownsville, where she was the bookkeeper for 50 years.
Marie will be sadly missed by her only child, Joyce L. Howes and her husband, Dr. Robert E. of Malden; four granddaughters, Melissa E. Howes-Vitek and her husband, Mark of Arlington Heights, Ill., Amanda A. Foulke and her husband, Andrew of St. Louis, Mo., Melinda M. Ritsko and her husband, Gregory of Grindstone, and Meredith R. Howes of Malden; four great-grandchildren, Gregory Ritsko III, Samantha P. Ritsko, Reilly Hunt and Asa H. Foulke, all at home; a sister, Evelyn C. McKnight, with whom she made her home for many years; a niece, Kay Nussbaumer; and three nephews, Terry Wilson and his wife, Esther, Kenneth Wilson and his wife, Ruthann and Harry McKnight and his wife, Deborah.
The family will receive friends in the CONFER FUNERAL HOME, 515 Front St., Brownsville, tonight from 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, from 9 until 10 a.m. Funeral Services will then be conducted, with the Rev. David H. Lindberg of California United Methodist Church officiating, as her pastor is away. Burial will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery, Brownsville, Pa.
