Two parades to attract participants at Coal Show
CARMICHAELS – Two parades held during the Coal Show each year continue to attract several participants. The children’s pet parade, set for Wednesday, Aug. 21, allows the children of the area to show off their favorite pets. Children will assemble with their pets at the Yoskovich Funeral Home parking lot on South Market Street at 5:30 p.m. and then proceed to the town square at 6 p.m. for judging. The parade is escorted by the Carmichaels Area High School band.
Participants are reminded that no horses or ponies are permitted for safety reasons, and no grasshoppers or other insects will be considered for prizes.
Categories include largest cat, cutest kitten, prettiest cat, best groomed dog, prettiest dog, cutest puppy, oddest pet, smallest pet and largest pet.
Each winner receives $5, and the owner of the best-groomed dog receives $10.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, the Bill Gideon Memorial Bicycle parade for all ages will proceed through town.
The riders on their decorated bikes assemble at the Yoskovich parking lot at 5:30 p.m. for judging. Prize categories are youngest child pedaling, $10; oldest person on bike, $10; and oldest bike in parade, $10.
Those in age groups 1 to 5 will receive four prizes of $6 each; ages 6 to 10, four prizes of $7 each; and ages 11 to 15, four prizes of $8 each.
Led by the CAHS band, the parade will then proceed to the town square, where prizes will be awarded.
Entrants in both parades receive a ticket from the King Coal Association good for a small soda at the fire hall grounds.
