Arthur “Art” Verna
Arthur “Art” Verna, 66 years, of Bobtown, Pa., died Friday, August 16, 2002, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia. He was born January 31, 1936, in Bobtown, Pa., son of Paul Verna and Margaret Vecchio Verna.
He was a retired Coal Miner and Mine Examiner of the Shannopin Mine, Bobtown.
“Art” was a 44-year member of the United Mine workers of America, presently serving as Recording Secretary of Local Union 6159.
He was a member of and served as Recording Secretary on the first Constitutional Committee in the history of District 4 and was elected to the first set of Trustees.
He was a member of the esteemed Greene County Coal Miners Monument Committee, the Bobtown Polish Club, Rod and Gun Club, and Point Marion Eagles Aerie 1932, and a social member of Point Marion V.F.W. Post 747 and also American Legion Post 499.
“Art” was a very avid golfer and had participated in several different groups during his lifetime.
A brother, Geno Verna, and his parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Vernon Verna; three sons: Paolo “Paul” A. S. Verna and Martin R. Verna both of Bobtown and Alex M. Verna, Leesburg, Virginia; five grandchildren; four sisters: Jenny Lukasik and Rose Verna both of Republic, Pa., Theresa Verna, Carmichaels, Pa., and Alma Lint, Norristown, Pa.; and one brother, James Verna, Concord, Ohio.
Friends will be received in the LOUIS E. RUDOLPH FUNERAL HOME, 15 Main Street, Point Marion, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Prayer Service will be held Tuesday, August 20, at 9 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Bobtown, with Rev. Fr. Lawrence V. Holpp as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Garards Fort Cemetery, Garards Fort, Pa.
Parish Vigil Service will be held Monday at 8:30 p.m.
