Hopwood Village Project to host fair
HOPWOOD – In celebration of Route 40’s being designated the newest “All-American Roadway,” the Hopwood Village Project will go all out and host a fair. The event will be held Sunday, Sept. 1, in the parking lot of the Hopwood Fitness Center.
The organizers say the fair will have something for everyone, the entertainment suitable for all ages. Admission and the performances are free.
During the fair, Fayette County artists and crafters will show and sell their wares in a courtyard-style setting. The roster of participating artists includes the following: Helen Alt; Emily Chesler; Mary Kay Karolewics; Marie Lint; potter Nancy Machesny; designer Cameron Neff; and photographer Patricia Thomas.
Crafters joining in on the event include Andrea’s American Benches, Rick Bobincheck, Ellen’s Oldtiques, Peggy Gaffney, Hopwood Garden Club, Pat Perkins, Ron’s Crafts, Mary Schvarczkopf, Rita’s Painted Rocks, Village Crafters and White Picket Fence.
The fair will begin at 2 p.m. with a concert on the “green” by the Veterans of Foreign Post 47 Band, followed at 3:30 p.m. with a performance by “Mike the Magician.” From 4 to 5 p.m. visitors can enjoy the sounds of “The Classics.” Songwriter and singer/guitarist Chuck Cantalamessa will entertain from 5 to 6 p.m. The fair will come to a close with a festive oldies street dance in the courtyard from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring WMBS radio personality DJ Arnie Amber.
Strolling through the crowd from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., “Bob the Juggler” will entertain with his feats of dexterity. In addition, the fair will feature the premier of Hopwood’s newest balloon-twisting clown, as well as games with chances to win prizes.
Food vendors also will line the courtyard with everything from candies and cookies to sandwiches and pizza. The vendors include Adrian’s Market, Herring’s Restaurant, the AMVETS Auxiliary, Four Star Pizza, Hopwood Area Girl Scouts, Hopwood Tavern, Koziel’s Cotton Candy, Nachos by Kathy and Juanita, Sis’s Fudge and Candy Apples and a soft drink stand.
Donna Holdorf with the National Road Heritage Park said she was pleased that the Hopwood organization planned an event to join in with towns and communities along the 90-mile stretch of Route 40 to celebrate this Labor Day weekend.
At a recent meeting of the Hopwood Village Project, co-chairman Al Botti said that the All American Road designation was a “beautiful and monumental distinction that all who live along the National Pike could be proud of.”
In the event of inclement weather, the fair will be canceled.
