August 23, 2002 Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults:ST. ST. The church will hold its last week of services on its summer schedule with church school classes from 9 to 9:45 a.m. and worship service from 10 to 11 a.m. Beginning Sunday, Sept. 1 and continuing thereafter, the church will follow its regular Sunday schedule with church school classes from 9:45 to 10:40 a.m. and worship service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Our children and youth are learning through WORM this summer. WORM (Workshop Rations Model) is a neat way of teaching and learning, using art, drama, music, computers, videos, puzzles and games. We will complete our study of Baptism this week in our art workshop. This is for preschool through high school each Sunday through August from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
The Stewardship and Mission Committee will sponsor Pleasant View’s fifth annual personal goods and services auction Sunday at 11 a.m. following worship service. Quarrick Auction Service will provide their professional services in the person of Matt Quarrick. The auction will be held in the pavilion (weather permitting). A light lunch will be provided, free of charge, prior to the beginning of bidding. The proceeds of the auction benefit the Pleasant View Mission Fund and the Presbyterian Hunger Fund.

THE DIOCESAN COUNCIL OF CATHOIC WOMEN, announces their annual pilgrimage to St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe, on Sept. 11. The evening will begin with a remembrance mass at 6 p.m. It will conclude with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy to end the nine-day Novena conducted by St. John’s Church.

GREENE VALLEY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, located at 104 E. Greene Street, Carmichaels, announces the start of Pioneer Club for boys and girls from first through sixth grades. This year, club members will learn about drama, home improvements, first aid, outdoor cooking and wood working. Club members also grow spiritually by developing Christian values and learning to apply the Bible to everyday life. Trustworthy, caring club leaders provide positive role models.

GREENSBORO’S GOD AND COUNTRY HO DOWN, sponsored by New Hope Free Methodist Church, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event begins at 11 a.m. with a parade through Greensboro and will include a recognition and memorial service at Mon View Park. The Rev. Ginny Eberhart reported the ceremony will include a 21-gun salute and the playing of “Taps’ to honor those who were killed because of terrorism this past year. They will also honor all Greene County public servants, including fire departments, police departments, armed forces and veterans.

MOUNT PLEASANT CHURCH OF GOD, 936 West Main St., Mount Pleasant, will hold a music reading clinic conducted by Merle Stutzman, musical director at Connellsville Area High School, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The clinic will introduce participants to some very basic sight singing techniques. The purpose of the clinic it to help existing and potential choir members become better music readers.
Local church choral directors are specifically invited to attend. During the clinic, eight new music releases for general Thanksgiving and Advent season will be read.

MOUNT PLEASANT MINISTERIUM will host a 9-11 Candlelight Memorial Service at Veterans Park gazebo on South Diamond Street at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The Mount Pleasant High School Tower of Power marching band will participate. Emergency response personnel and armed services will be recognized. Lives lost as a result of Sept. 11 will be remembered. There will be candle lighting, prayer and a public Pledge of Allegiance as well as community ensemble of various congregations to lead in the public singing of the “The Star Spangled Banner’ and “God Bless America.’

Wednesday, Sept. 11, the community is invited to join in a “Service of Remembrance” those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks a year ago. The service will begin at 7:30 p.m. and include the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
ST. MARY ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE, located at 101 West High St., Kittanning, is hosting a “Majestic Tour of Italy” November 10 -19. The tour will visit historical and religious sites of Italy. During several days in Rome, participants will visit St. Peter’s Basilica, Catacombs, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Sistine Chapel and more. They will also attend the Wednesday General Audience with Pope John Paul II. Departing from Rome the group will go to Naples, Capri, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. In Montecassino, the participants will have the opportunity to visit the Benedictine Monastery, which was destroyed during the war and completely rebuilt. This year’s mass will be held in conjunction with an observance commemorating 9-11. Police firemen and emergency personnel are invited. Three vigil light candles will be carried in the Offertory Procession to represent New York City, the Pentagon and Shanksville. Prayers will be offered for all deceased victims, their families, survivors and volunteers who responded and our local emergency personnel.
