Carmichaels board hires teachers
CARMICHAELS – The Carmichaels Area School Board hired a few people at its last business meeting before school gets back into session. The school board hired Michael Gulino for a social studies position and Susan Hamilton as a mathematics instructor, both at $19,500 a year, or step 1 of the teachers’ contract. Related to the position filled by Hamilton, the board accepted the resignation of Rebecca Stevens as math instructor.
The board hired Mary Pratt and Jeffrey Donaldson as paraprofessionals, at a rate of $6.91 per hour, and Sara Ruth as bus monitor.
The board also granted tenure status to Melissa Christopher and Christopher Eaton.
Among other matters, directors J.L. Lechner, Annabelle Pratt and Michael Conte asked that the meeting minutes indicate that they were opposed to full-day kindergarten.
The board voted in June in favor of instituting full-day kindergarten this fall.
Lechner, Pratt and Conte were not present for that vote, and director Linda Krajnak also was absent at that time. The four had been excused from the meeting.
Conte got the board’s approval to attend a technology leadership conference, sponsored by the state Department of Education, in Pittsburgh in September, and board President Ron Ferek got approval to attend the annual Pennsylvania School Boards Association conference in Harrisburg in October, at no cost to the district.
