August 25, 2002 Man to face trial

Police plan program

Local police departments in Fayette, Greene and Washington counties, state police and other law enforcement agencies are beginning the “Drive Smart, Buckle Up 2002” traffic law enforcement blitz from Aug. 25 to Sept. 7.

The goal is to make the start of the school year safer. Police will enforce laws and have zero tolerance for those found in violation.

Advisory issued

PennDOT District 12 alerts motorists that Crawford Avenue in Connellsville will be closed and a detour will be in place beginning Monday at 6 a.m. and will be effective until Friday, Nov. 8, weather permitting. The limits of this project will be between Snyder Street (Route 711) and Breakneck Road.

The detour will use route 711, Locust Street, Falcon Drive and Breakneck Road. The detour is in place for drainage improvements and the removal and replacement of pavement and sub-base.

Utility companies will work the first three days that the road will be closed, giving them the opportunity to relocate service lines in advance of the contractor’s work. Contractors will begin removing the roadway Thursday.
