Matthew J. Boggio
Matthew J. Boggio, age 82, of Nemacolin, Pa., died unexpectedly at 12:40 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2002, at his home. He was born January 15, 1920, in Latrobe, Pa., a son of Anthony Louis Boggio and Mary DeVitto Boggio.
Mr. Boggio resided in Nemacolin most of his life where he was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church.
He attended the former Cumberland Township High School.
Mr. Boggio worked as a Mechanic at the Nemacolin Mine until his retirement in 1978 and served as President of United Mine Workers of America Local 6290 for many years.
He co-owned and operated the Nemacolin Hotel from 1949 until 1970.
Mr. Boggio was an avid poker player and was dedicated to his family
His wife of 46 years, Rita Jean Antonini Boggio, whom he married on May 14, 1938, died March 7, 1985.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Boggio, a sister, Catherine B. Antonini, and a very dear friend and companion, Thelma Orlosky.
Surviving are a son, Jim Boggio and his wife, Charmayne, of Clinton Township, Michigan; two daughters; Penny Rae Wasko and Terrie Simko and her husband, Nick, all of Carmichaels, Pa.; six grandchildren: Bill Hanuschock of Uniontown, Pa., DeAnn Baermann of Germany, Vanessa Young of Medina, Ohio, Mathew Boggio and Bethany Boggio both of Clinton Township, Michigan, and Rita Simko of Parma, Ohio; four great grandchildren: William and Zachary Hanuschock and Isabella and Annika Baermann; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Route 88, Carmichaels, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Blessing Service will be held Monday, August 26, at 10:30 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Nemacolin, with Rev. Fr. John M. Bauer as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Crucible, Pa.
A Parish Vigil Service will be held in the Funeral Home today at 7 p.m.
